Case Study - Mobile app widget
Visibility of real-time network connection experience from the device they are using, and customers can self-check and reduce calls.
Overview
Network Pulse (2023 ACOMM award-winner) provides customers with visibility of their real-time Optus mobile network or WiFi connection experience from the device they are using – from what’s happening on the Optus mobile towers near them to the status of their individual Optus mobile, home or public WiFi connections using interactive maps. My main focus is to design a visual and interactive UI to deliver the final design to the market.
Challenge
Hybrid app development (iOS, Android and WebView). Make seamless platform movement and consistent User Experience
Multi scenario to design. 2 types of networks, Mobile SIM and WiFi, 4 different network statuses (excellent, good, fair and poor). Showing performance and insight. There are many sections to design, challenge to make it simple and intuitive screen design and transition
Design brief to apply gamification. Using Apple Maps and Google Maps to show the nearest network tower, heart icon inject micro animation, and speed testing animation
It is a hero feature of the APP and needs multi-stakeholders to get approved design decisions/direction.
Must pass AA accessibility
Process
Due to a tight deadline and need for a fast-paced design turnaround, I switched to daily design reviews to receive frequent feedback from key stakeholders.
Presented a large volume of low-fidelity through to high-fidelity prototypes and iterated processes.
Designed heart icon micro animation and speed test animation using React Spring to create data graph interactions
Partner with a UX designer to run prototypes, user tests and guerrilla user tests.
Follow up with the developer and review the design frequently to give feedback and support to finalise the design
